MJA Carpentry is owned and run by Matt Andrews, a highly skilled carpenter with a strong background in engineering, design, and traditional craftsmanship.
Matt began his career with an aerospace engineering degree, developing a detailed understanding of structural design, precision, and problem-solving. After graduating, he moved into hands-on timber work, first working with a classic wooden yacht restoration company in Cornwall, where he refined traditional joinery skills and an appreciation for high-quality materials and long-lasting construction.
He then went on to work for a specialist treehouse building company in Bristol, gaining experience in creative, site-specific structures and complex builds that require careful planning and innovative thinking. This blend of engineering knowledge and practical carpentry led to the creation of MJA Carpentry in 2018.
Alongside running the business, Matt is a keen surfer and continues to shape custom hollow wooden surfboards in Cornwall under the surf brand Emperor Surf. This passion for craftsmanship, design, and working with timber carries through into every project, whether it’s a small residential job or a large bespoke build.
Today, MJA Carpentry focuses on delivering well-designed, carefully built structures that are tailored to each client’s needs, with an emphasis on quality, durability, and clear communication throughout the process. We provide bespoke carpentry across Newquay, Truro, and all areas in between.
